My Business Trip to the Netherlands with APJI: A Week of Connections, Ideas, and Indonesian Flavors

On October 28th, I flew to the Netherlands together with the team from APJI (Asosiasi Pengusaha Jasa Boga Indonesia). It wasn’t just a regular trip, this one felt special. I was excited, curious, and honestly a bit nervous thinking about the opportunities ahead.

Arriving in Amsterdam & Staying in Utrecht

After landing in Amsterdam, the cold autumn air immediately hit me, a whole different vibe from Indonesia! From there, we continued straight to Utrecht, where we stayed until November 5th. Utrecht is calm, walkable, and beautiful. Every corner felt like a postcard.

Visiting the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI Amsterdam)

One of our first activities was visiting the Indonesian Embassy in Amsterdam. The team there welcomed us so warmly. We talked about business opportunities, Indonesian food products, and how we could tap into the European market.

I shared a simple dream:
One day, our products can be on shelves across Europe.

And honestly, hearing their support made it feel possible.

Meeting the Indonesian Diaspora Entrepreneurs (ASPINA)

Next, we met with the Indonesian entrepreneurs in the Netherlands who are part of ASPINA. The vibes were great very friendly, very supportive, and full of ideas.

We discussed the market potential in Europe, the challenges of exporting food products, and how we can collaborate in the future. It felt like meeting family, even though it was our first time gathering.

Touring an Importer’s Warehouse

This was one of my favorite parts of the trip. We visited a warehouse owned by an importer who distributes Asian products all over the Netherlands.

Walking through the aisles, I imagined our products being stocked there someday ready to ship to restaurants, stores, and communities throughout Europe. It was motivating to see how the system works firsthand.

Trying Indonesian Restaurants in the Netherlands

Of course, the trip wouldn’t be complete without tasting Indonesian food in Europe! We visited a few Indonesian restaurants, and it felt like home.

The chefs were incredibly friendly and open. We talked about ingredients, consistency, and even the possibility of them using products from Indonesia maybe even from us someday. Those conversations were simple, but meaningful.

A Trip Full of Hope

This journey was more than meetings and business visits.
It was about connection, inspiration, and seeing firsthand how strong the Indonesian community is abroad.

I came home with new ideas, new friends, and a stronger belief that Indonesian products can go global.

And hopefully, in the near future, we’ll be sending our products to the Netherlands and from there, to the rest of Europe.

One step at a time. Europe, we’re coming.

Do Not Be Ashamed of Your Past: Focus on Growth, Not Comparison

There is a silent burden many people carry: shame from the past. Mistakes. Poor decisions. Moments of weakness. Failures that still echo in memory. We replay them. We judge ourselves. We wonder how different life would be if we had chosen differently. But here is a truth supported both by psychology and lived human experience: Your past is a chapter — not the whole book. Shame vs. Growth Researcher Brené Brown , known for her work on vulnerability and shame, explains that shame says, “I am bad,” while guilt says, “I did something bad.” That difference is powerful. Shame attacks identity. Guilt guides correction. In her book Daring Greatly , she emphasizes that growth becomes possible when we separate our worth from our mistakes. If you believe you are your failure, you stop trying. But if you believe you simply made a mistake, you can learn. You are not your worst decision. The Past Is Data, Not Identity Psychologically, reflection is one of the strongest tools for i...
