My recent trip to Batam was short but filled with beautiful impressions of the city. From modern shopping experiences to iconic religious landmarks and a glimpse into local industries, Batam offered a unique and memorable journey.
Day 1 – Arrival and a Modern Welcome
I arrived at Hang Nadim International Airport, Batam's main gateway. The airport was clean and well-organized, making my arrival smooth and comfortable. After settling in, I went straight to Grand Batam Mall, one of the most modern shopping centers in the city. The mall was impressive—with international stores, cozy cafes, and a lively crowd. It was the perfect place to relax after my flight and enjoy the modern side of Batam.
Day 2 – Visiting Iconic Mosques and Local Industry
The next day, I explored Batam’s cultural and spiritual beauty. I visited two of the city's most iconic mosques: Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque and Jabal Arafah Mosque. Both places were peaceful and stunning, with beautiful architecture and a calm atmosphere that gave me a moment of reflection.
While exploring the area, I also visited a local tempe production site—a collaboration with Rumah Tempe Indonesia. It was fascinating to see how tempe, a traditional Indonesian food made from fermented soybeans, is produced in a clean and professional environment. The project not only preserves local culinary heritage but also empowers the community through sustainable food production.
Conclusion
Batam may be known for its industry and commerce, but it also has a softer side full of culture, community, and charm. From shopping malls to spiritual sites and local craftsmanship, my short trip to Batam left me with a deep appreciation for the city's diversity and energy.
I look forward to discovering even more next time I return!
