Helping Local Heroes: My Journey with MSMEs in Bogor and Their Digital Transformation

Over the past few years, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to work closely with micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Bogor—a city known for its cool weather, green landscapes, and, now, rising entrepreneurial spirit.

At first glance, many of these businesses seemed like any other local shops: home-based food producers, crafters, small-scale clothing sellers, and traditional service providers. But behind every small business was a passionate individual or family pouring their heart into what they do. What they needed wasn't just funding or motivation—they needed a way to adapt to the fast-changing world. That’s where digital adoption came in.

Starting the Digital Conversation

When I first introduced the idea of going digital—using social media, setting up an online store, joining digital payment platforms—many business owners were hesitant. Some had never used a smartphone beyond WhatsApp. Others feared they weren’t "tech-savvy" enough. So we started small.

I organized relaxed, community-based workshops where we’d sit together, drink coffee, and walk through simple digital tools step by step. We focused on what mattered most to them: how to get more customers, how to manage orders easily, and how to market their products online without spending too much.

Real Progress, Real People

One of my favorite success stories is from a mother-and-daughter duo who ran a homemade sambal (chili sauce) business. Before going digital, they sold mostly to neighbors and friends. With some training, they started using Instagram, Tokopedia, and Shopee. A few months later, their sambal was being shipped to other cities in Java—and eventually even reached customers in Kalimantan and Sulawesi. The joy on their faces when their first out-of-town order came in? Unforgettable.

Another inspiring case was a local tailor who had always relied on walk-in customers. We helped him create a digital catalog of his custom designs, and within a few weeks, he was receiving orders from Jakarta clients who found him through TikTok!

What I Learned Along the Way

Supporting MSMEs isn’t about throwing technology at them—it’s about listening, understanding their daily challenges, and introducing tools that actually fit their workflow. It’s about celebrating small wins, being patient with slow progress, and building confidence bit by bit.

Most importantly, I learned that digital transformation is not just about business growth. It’s about empowerment. When an MSME owner realizes they can compete, grow, and dream bigger because of digital tools, that’s when the real transformation happens.

Looking Forward

Bogor is full of potential. The more we support local entrepreneurs to embrace digital change, the stronger the local economy becomes. I'm proud to be part of that journey—and even more excited for what’s ahead. There are still many MSMEs waiting for their moment to level up. And I’m ready to walk that road with them, one click at a time.

Patience in Ramadan

Ramadan is often described as a month of restraint, holding back hunger, thirst, and desires. But beyond the physical, it is a profound exercise in patience. It teaches us to pause, to endure, and to remain grounded even when things don’t go as planned. In leadership, this lesson becomes even more meaningful. A leader is not only responsible for results, but also for people. And people change. Teams evolve. Some stay, some leave, some grow, and others struggle. In the middle of this constant movement, a leader faces one of the hardest tests: staying committed to the vision while everything else feels temporary. This is where patience becomes a form of strength. Ramadan reminds us that not everything is instant. Just like fasting from dawn to sunset, progress in leadership is often unseen in the moment. It requires consistency, discipline, and faith in the process. A leader who understands this does not rush decisions out of frustration, nor lose direction when the team shifts. Ins...

Memilikimu-Tere Liye

Sepetik karya Tere Liye Sunset via unplash Aku mencintai sunset. Menatap kaki langit, ombak berdebur.

When You Fall, Don’t Be Ashamed to Stand Again

There are seasons in life when we feel unworthy. Unworthy of love. Unworthy of forgiveness. Unworthy even of trying again. We tell ourselves: “I should be better by now.” “I keep making the same mistakes.” “Maybe I’m just not good enough.” But what if falling is not proof of failure, what if it is proof that you are still learning? The Child Learning to Walk Imagine a small child learning to walk toward their mother. One step. Then a fall. Another step. Another fall. Would a loving mother become angry? Would she say, “You failed again”? No. She would run toward the child. She would kneel down. She would open her arms wide. She might even tear up not from disappointment, but from overwhelming love and encouragement. Every fall does not reduce her love. It deepens her tenderness. Now imagine this truth expanded beyond human limits: The Source of Life, however you understand or name it carries a love greater than any parent’s love. If human compassion is already ...
